7 Ways to Integrate Search Engine and Social Media Marketing
1. Social Sharing Buttons on Your Website - It may seem simple, but search engines like Google are starting to use social media sharing data to influence search rankings. As a marketer, it is critically important to have social media sharing buttons on your blog and website to encourage visitors to share content in social media. These buttons will not only help to increase traffic from social media but will also play an important role today and in the future for ranking positions in search engines.
2. Integrated Keyword Strategy - As I mentioned earlier, the line between search engines and social media platforms is blurring. Take the keyword strategy you are using for your website and apply it to your social media engagement when appropriate. This doesn't mean cramming tweets full of keywords. Instead, be aware of how you are wording social media messages. By incorporating keywords into social media content, you can increase the reach of your messages.
3. Include Links in Social Profiles - The links in social media messages such as tweets and Facebook status updates are traditionally no-follow links. This means they don't pass any SEO authority to the site they're linking to. While this is starting to change, it is important to understand that the URL in the actual bio of a social media accountis a follow link. Keep this in mind, and make sure you are taking advantage of these extra links.
4. Incorporate Links Into Video and Presentation Content - Some of the most powerful social media platforms are those that facilitate content sharing, such as YouTube for video and SlideShare for presentations. When sharing content on these types of networks, be sure to share links to related blog posts or other content on your website. Yes, this will increase traffic to your website, but it will also help build new inbound links. When someone writes a blog post about your content, it is likely they will also include a link from the presentation, simply because it is the "easy" thing to do.
5. Optimize Social Profiles - Think of social media profile pages as extensions of your website. In the same way that you would optimize website pages for page titles and keywords, audit your social media profiles to ensure they mirror the search engine optimization strategy of your website.
6. Build Links and Social Media Reach - Search engine optimization has long been about inbound links to your website. While inbound links are still really important, a secondary metric for marketers looking to increase search traffic should be social media reach. As we talked about earlier, social media data is becoming a factor in search engine rankings. In order to get more people to share your content in social media, you need to increase the number of fans or followers of your account. By doing this through quality content creation and engagement, you will not only build social media reach but also inbound links.
7. Establish New Relationships - The web is now a social communications channel. Similar to sales, relationships are huge for driving inbound links and social media attention. Building relationships using social media can open opportunities for guest blog posts and other link-building opportunities.

Invece no!

Ingresso dell'Hotel Esplanade
Ho trovato gente schietta, diretta e sincera.

Buona lettura.

6 Social Media Marketing Mistakes…and How to Fix Them

With all of the information out there about social media, it is tough to know what to pay attention to and what to take with a grain of salt.  Yet even with all of this information, we all still make our fair share of mistakes when executing our social media marketing campaigns.
As an owner of a social media-marketing firm, everyday I speak with people who are trying to make the most out of their Facebook and LinkedIn profile, or making their “tweets” count on Twitter.  The following are a few of the most common mistakes that I have seen companies make on social media and what we can do to combat them in the future.
Mistake #1: Lack of Research on the Platform
This is a very important one.  With all of the hype around social media (and also due to the fact that creating accounts is free and easy), many of us are eager to just jump in headfirst.  Keep in mind that social media is a branding and visibility platform and thus needs to carry the right messaging and voice.  Before you go full speed ahead, first see what you are getting yourself into.
I suggest creating a sparse profile and taking the time to look through each site.  Where is your target market?  What is your competition doing right (which can really help you come up with a strategy)?  What applications can be useful?  How are people communicating?  What tools to I have to communicate with my market?  While Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter can work to everyone’s advantage, if you only have time to manage one or two presences, it is best to be able to pinpoint the right ones and save yourself time and effort.
Top tip: a great way of seeing what sites suit your business is by asking your existing audience via polling.
Mistake #2: Lack of Focus
When you execute an advertising campaign, you know whom you are targeting.  When you do a public relations campaign, you know what market you are trying to reach out to.  When you do an email marketing campaign…. well, you get the point.  Social media is no different.
Social media allows us to target with laser focus, you just need to identify whom you are trying to reach. Once identified, the key is to connect with “meaningful people” not just random people to get “the numbers.”  Come on, why connect with 10,000 people who don’t care about you?  What good does that do?  Find connect and engage with people that matter.  Focus!

Everything a Marketer Should Know About QR Code

Blog QR Code
Barcodes, QR codes, readers, 2D barcodes (have you ever seen a 3D barcode?). There’s a lot of debate in the marketing world about just how useful these scan-able images can be for businesses, and that debate continued on the May 13th episode of HubSpot’s Marketing Update with Karen Rubin and Mike Volpe. Opinions ranged from “who would waste their time using those?!” to “I just don’t think marketers have figured out how to use them yet.”

What the Heck is a QR Code?
QR stands for quick response, and barcodes are nothing new. But to clear up any confusion, a QR code is simply a matrix barcode that is readable by QR barcode readers that can be installed on smart phones. The information that is encoded by QR codes can include text, a URL, or other data. Barcodes have been around for quite some time, but their use as a mobile utility for accessing information is new in the scheme of things. Just like any new piece of technology, the mass market will show signs of resistance before it starts to adopt it. And while there will always be naysayers out there, the fact of the matter is that if QR codes catch on with consumers (and there is nothing that suggests they won’t), businesses – especially local ones – can really stand to benefit from them.
Even though the mass market has yet to fully embrace them, there are multiple reasons why local businesses should be embracing QR codes now as part of their mobile marketing strategy.

QR Codes Can Help You Stand Out From the Crowd
Differentiating your business from your competitors is definitely a marketing 101 lesson. The fact that QR codes have not yet been adopted by the masses means there are many people who see them and don’t know what they are. If used correctly, QR codes can spike the curiosity of your customers and prospects alike. Use this opportunity to link QR codes to exclusive offers or valuable content to carry that curiosity through to a sale.

business card with QR code

Boston Photobooth Rental is a local shop that rents photo booths for all sorts of occasions. They recently redesigned their business cards and used the back of the business card to host two QR codes. One leads to their website and other to their reviews page. Tell me using this otherwise wasted real estate is not a good idea! [...]

5 Social Media Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

This is a guest post written by Tammy Kahn Fennell, CEO and co-founder of MarketMeSuite. MarketMeSuite now has thousands of users and a fast-growing global customer base of small businesses and consultants.
As more and more users flock to social media, small businesses must find a way to use these channels to reach their target markets. It can often seem daunting to cut through the social media clutter; however with these 5 strategies, you’ll be well on your way to social media marketing success.

1. Narrow Your target

For small businesses, it's important to connect with people in your geographic area, especially if you are a brick and mortar operation. Targeting your social media posts to a specific area or keyword set ensures that you are only interacting with viable leads.
There are hundreds of thousands of status updates getting published every minute, so cutting through the clutter has to be a top priority. Start small. Start out familiarizing yourself with tools like search.twitter.com, and you can eventually move on to using a more business-specific tool like CoTweet or Hootsuite.

2. Be Proactive

If you simply assume that “if you tweet, they will come,” you may be waiting for a long time. You need to find out who you should be interacting with and go after those people. Join Facebook Groups, LinkedIn Groups, check out PeerIndex.net lists on your genre, and look at a person’s Twitter Grader score. There are so many tools out there whose sole mission is to make it easier to target your exact customer, so make use of them.

Steps to a Great Marketing Plan

Steps to a Great Marketing PlanMarketing plans are for VP’s of corporations, too many small business owners think – falsely believing a business card, brochure, website and Social Media are the only marketing tools they require.  If your marketing efforts are shot-in-the-dark risks rather than profitable investments, you might want to reconsider creating a solid marketing plan – even if it’s a few points scribbled on a sheet of paper!  Here are the steps:
Step 1:  State Your Business Purpose – start with a summary of your purpose. For example – I empower entrepreneurs, professionals and book authors by providing them effective, efficient, affordable, marketing/PR advice and solutions to match their schedules, budgets and circumstances. I give them the BIG AGENCY feeling without the BIG AGENCY price – so they don’t have to face their marketing/PR problems alone and can take their businesses up a level!
Step 2:  Define Your Market Situation – What challenges, transformations and opportunities are you enduring in relation to your client’s?  Will these changes affect their purchasing power??  How much direct & indirect competition do you have vying for your clients’ dollars?? Are they initiating programs to threaten your business or closing and leaving you with a void to fill?  What seasonal and economic changes influence your business?  What physical adjustments (building renovations or roadwork) are reducing accessibility and parking? Are there any regional, local or industry events to capitalize on?
Step 3:  Set Goals and Objectives – What’s your goal – to land 3 more clients, participate in a trade show, incorporate social media, give a talk, host a special event, obtain media coverage or join a networking group? Whatever marketing measure you implement to increase revenue, arriving at your destination and achieving success, begins with knowing where you’re headed and how to get there.  Write your goals down and stick to them. Each time a new option arises, ask yourself…Will this bring me closer to my goal or take me off my path?   If so, pass on it.
Step 4:  Define Your Target Profile – in terms of their age, gender, religion, ethnicity, martial status, income, education, household and location.  Include their attitudes, behavioural patterns, spending habits, beliefs, values, hobbies and interests. What do they do on weekends? Do they read books, newspapers, journals or magazines? Watch TV, listen to radio or both?  How often are they online??  Are they Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn users?
This information with help you:
  • Develop appealing marketing tactics & remain in contact
  • Create PR & advertising messages that align your unique approach, interests and emotions with existing and prospective customers
  • Select effective communication vehicles
  • Weigh media sales pitches & placements
  • Project a unified image that reinforces your position, brand & creative strategy

How to Become the Awesomest Marketer EVER
Nobody likes being interrupted. That includes your customers, leads, prospects, neighbors, children, etc. We used to tolerate intrusive advertising. These days, we don't have to.
Once upon a time, your audience could easily be found listening to the radio, watching TV, searching for your business in the yellow pages, attending a trade show, or sifting thoughtfully through a small stack of mail.

  • 78% of people use search engines to conduct product research.
  • 57% of US Adult Internet users conducted a search today.
  • 93% of US Adult Internet users are on Facebook.
  • One out of every eight minutes online is spent on Facebook. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, and outbound marketers are wearing steak-flavored underpants.
In 2007, HubSpot had 10 beta customers, 5 employees, and generated roughly 60-90 leads per month. Today, we have 4,500 customers, 200 employees, and generate 40,000 leads per month. Much of that growth (and a large portion of those 40,000 leads) was produced by inbound marketing assets (like blog posts, ebooks, videos, presentations, podcasts, etc.) that were created four years ago by those first five employees.
Awesome marketers build awesome marketing teams. They recognize that in today's rapidly changing world, marketing experience matters less than digital chops, an analytical mindset, existing "reach," and the ability to create remarkable content. At HubSpot, we refer to this short list of attributes as "DARC" (Digital, Analytical, Reach, Content), and we actively recruit, hire, and develop awesome marketers that possess these very qualities.
Remember the good old "K.I.S.S." acronym? That's right—"Keep It Simple, Silly." The Awesomest Marketer Ever seeks to streamline and simplify her marketing tools and processes. Instead of using one product for analytics, another for social media, a third for SEO, a fourth for her website, a fifth for email, and three or four others for sales and CRM functions, she's smart enough to seek out the ONE that pulls them all together.

Want to become The Awesomest Marketer EVER? Here's a simple 5-step formula to guarantee your success.
STEP 1: Stop Interrupting People!
Which is probably why 91% of people have unsubscribed to an email they previously opted-in to, and why 86% of people skip TV ads, and at least 44% of direct mail goes straight into the recycling bin.
Instead of interrupting the things in which people are interested, awesome marketers work on becoming the things in which people are interested.
STEP 2. Be Where Your Audience Is.
NO LONGER.
Today's reality is both more fascinating and more challenging for many marketers, and it is this: your audience is online.
Get the idea?
Put another way, Google is your new business card, and Facebook is your new referral engine. If you are not AWESOME at using search engines and social networks to market your company/product/service, you are most definitely missing the proverbial boat.
STEP 3. Go inbound!
Outbound marketing—or the practice of paying for "impressions"—might appear to be the easiest, fastest way to reach your audience, but what happens when you stop paying?
Nothing, that's what.
Because outbound marketing does not create any reusable assets. It's the single-serving, disposal snack-pack of marketing.
Inbound marketing, by contrast, requires much less cash (if any) upfront, but more effort and time. Your results may not be instant, but they'll be lasting.
Example:
Collectively, HubSpot's library of inbound marketing assets have amassed over 7,000,000 views. Our monthly web traffic is more than double that of better-known, more established companies that are many times our size. Between blog subscribers, email lists, and social media fans/followers, our reach is more like that of a media company than a marketing software company.
All of this is true because we eat our own dogfood, and that awesome food happens to be called Inbound Marketing.
STEP 4. Build an awesome marketing team!

STEP 5: Simplify!
Come to think of it, it's quite likely that the Awesomest Marketer Ever is a HubSpot customer... or at the very least, is considering becoming one soon ;).

So cosa stai facendo e dove sei. Paura, eh?

So cosa hai fatto 5 minuti fa.
Non proprio a me, certo.
Ci metto 5 minuti a capire chi sei, dove sei, cosa stai facendo.
Come?
Account Foursquare e check-in: i ladri ringraziano.
Su Facebook ci inseriamo nome e cognome, mail e telefono, indirizzo e luogo di lavoro, relazioni e familiari…e molto, molto altro.

From Pamela Seiple / Hubspot Blog

Let's face it, mom has taught us a lot over the years. From showing us how to brush our teeth in our early years to teaching us about love as teenagers and offering wisdom about how to be a successful, happy adult as we've grown older; in one way or another, our mothers have helped mold us into the people we are today. In the shadow of Mother's Day, I got to thinking about the many lessons I've learned from my mother and which ones could be applied to marketing, and I realized that, hey, there are quite a few!

1. Share! Okay, so mom was probably referring to things like toys -- not content -- but isn't it coincidental that the concept of sharing was probably one of the first things your mom taught you and also one of the most important parts of inbound marketing? Successful business marketers understand that sharing -- particularly content sharing -- is an extremely important part of inbound marketing. Their moms would be proud.

2. Plan ahead. I don't know about yours, but my mom was never a huge proponent of procrastination. In most situations, she taught me it was a good idea to come up with a plan of attack. Same goes for marketers. Likely, you have some goals to accomplish, whether they be in terms of traffic, leads, or even customers. While some spontaneity can make sense from time to time, your modern marketing team should always be planning ahead, whether it be in terms of a content strategy, an events schedule, or other marketing programs and initiatives.

3. Treat others as you’d like to be treated. The Golden Rule needn't only apply to your elementary school years. In the world of marketing, businesses should treat prospects the way they'd prefer to be treated. Be mindful of how your audience would respond to your marketing tactics, and ask yourself, if I were the one being marketed to, is this how I'd like to be treated?

4. Stay in touch. When you got older, you went off to college or moved into your own place to start your first job, leaving good ole mom behind. One of her few requests was likely that you keep in touch. Just like you wouldn't ignore your mom, don't ignore your community, whether it be prospects, customers, fans, or followers. Stay connected with your target audiences by frequently engaging with them via social media, email, or events.

5. Have an open mind, and don’t be afraid to try new things. When your mom said this, she was likely referring to those green veggies you were pushing around your plate, but even some of the most innovative marketers are the ones who aren't afraid to experiment with new marketing techniques and channels. Don't shy away from trying out new marketing trends; just be sure to do your research first, and take caution. Then evaluate your results, and make smart decisions about whether to stick with that marketing channel or focus on something else.

6. Stay up-to-date with current events. My mom always encouraged me to stay up-to-date with the news, and it's no different in marketing. Read news about your industry so you can stay on top of trends and developments. Understanding what's currently happening in your industry will make you a more intelligent marketer, and it might also even inspire some topic ideas for content creation. Make it easy to stay on top of industry news by subscribing to relevant industry blogs or news sites.

7. Tell the truth. Lying is another thing that has never been tolerated by my mom, and it won't get you very far as a marketer either. Particularly in this increasingly online world, transparency is key for businesses. Lies don't last long on the internet, and marketers who deceive their prospects and customers won't exactly get a reputation as the most trustworthy brand around.

8. Admit when you’re wrong, and say you’re sorry when you mess up. "We all make mistakes," said mom. Even in the business world, no one is perfect. Even though we have the best intentions, sooner or later, we might make a mistake. To successfully handle crises that arise, communicate! Admit that you're wrong, fix your mistake, and if an apology is necessary, make it. Likely, your audience will respect your recognition of the error and will be more likely to forgive your mistake if you approach it head-on.

9. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. You fell off your bike, but mom encouraged you to brush the dust off your pants, get back on, and try again. Similarly, there will be months when your marketing programs just aren't performing the way you want them to, and your goals seem impossible to achieve. Maybe you experimented with something new, and it failed miserably. Pick your head up, come up with a new plan, and try again. Your mom will love you for it... and so will your CMO.

What other life lessons has mom taught you that are applicable to marketing?
